Prevalence of Surgical Site Infection in Patients With Femoral Shaft Fracture

Background: The surgical site infections (SSIs) associated with orthopedic surgeries are prevalent since the commonly used implantation techniques increase risk of infection. This study aimed to evaluate prevalence SSI in patients femoral shaft fracture (FSF). Materials and Methods: retrospective cross-sectional was performed on FSF referred Shahid Mohammadi hospital Bandar Abbas, Iran from 2012 2016 for open intramedullary nailing (IMN) shaft. Data were entered into SPSS software version 25.0 statistical analysis. Results: Sixty-two individuals mean age 26.95±1.19 years participated study, whom 85.5% male 14.5% female. Twelve (19.4%) had fractures 50 (80.6%) closed FSFs. observed eight cases, one deep (osteomyelitis). Our results showed that not correlated or sex (P < 0.05), but it significantly frequency hospitalizations, other areas, type (open closed) 0.05). Conclusion: overall 12.9%, which higher compared previous studies. Humidity warm weather can be major contributing factors high post-operative infection this treatment center; however, conditions operating room facilities should also considered.
